The more I work with Colette's patterns the more I feel understand how the patterns are drafted, leaving me a lot more satisfied with the end project.
I learned a lot from the 5 muslins from my Macaroon and thankfully now I can adjust all in flat pattern.
I know what modifications and adjustments I need to do to match my body accurately and the process of fitting it's so much easier. I doesn't mean it's a quicker process.
I spent a few hours on Sunday with my block, adjusting the flat pattern:
*Lengthen the pattern
*Adjust the darts position and size
*Add a small dart on the sleeve hole
*Cut the back a smaller size
*adjust the skirt so its not too full
From that, choosing the fabric to baste-fit it was a treat! I was very pleased with the fit with a few adjustments.
Now, I am in the process of actually sewing it and hopefully I get it finish this week If I can manage. I been feeling very tired recently and find it hard to be productive.

ReplyDeleteIt's going to be lovely. I'm a new sewer and struggle with fit - reading your posts has made me realise I need to accept I'm going to need to put much more time and effort into the pre-sewing stages. I'm going to go back over your posts on tissue fitting etc - I will get there! Thanks for all your tips :)

ReplyDeleteSO interesting what you say about your fitting tips.....you know I had never even thought that I could cut a smaller back from the front, yet I always have a gaping back when I make Colette and some others....I feel inspired!! Your dress looks fabulous...
ReplyDeleteoh, im so glad to be able to inspire and thats its the reason of the blog.. you inspired a feature of this dress..
DeleteI'm working on a Peony now and am having a lot of trouble adjusting the armscye/sleeve so that I can actually raise my arms....does the dart you mentioned have to do with that, or was it just to reduce gape? Thanks!

ReplyDeleteWas to reduce excess fabric ... On my Facebook page for the blog I have a compilation of articles on sleeve and arm cycle . Maybe that can help you. Sounds like your arm cycle is too tight
